This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
At our progressive, inner-city school, students are looking to take advantage of many new learning opportunities recently available. From urban agriculture to culinary arts, VHS is looking to change the status quo and work towards making our building an example for all other city high schools.
Classified as a "High Poverty" school, our students are lacking in resources that are readily accessible to other districts around the state.
With some outside resources and community support, my students and school are well on the way to improving the lives and opportunities of those we educate daily.
My Project
My classroom is a positive place to allow students to express their creative side. These supplies will allow my students to express their inner artists. Paper, markers, and these creative tools will encourage my students to express themselves in ways words can not. Plans include students creating original "Wanted" posters for their unit on Greek gods. Creating "Flip Books" with the manila folders, and making wall graffiti with the wall paper that displays different historical scenes.
Posters, wall art, and folder projects will enhance student engagement in group and individual activities while also providing them with academic challenges.
These crafting supplies will help encourage engaging opportunities and promote participation in their studies of World History and Sociology. There are a many ways to instruct a student. These creative resources will allow me to offer another method by which students can learn and appreciate their lesson.
