My students need caterpillars and habitats for them to feed and grow. I'm requesting nine Insect Lore Two Live Cups of Caterpillars and seventeen Backyard Safari Butterfly Habitats.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are 7th grade students at a science, technology, engineering and mathematics magnet middle school. Our school serves students who live in high poverty households. Ninety percent of our students receive free or reduced lunch. My goal is to help mold my students into life-long learners.

My Project
I have seventeen excited inner city kids who have never seen a caterpillar transform into a butterfly.
It was their idea to do something that would help the community but also build on what other advisories in the school were doing, mostly cleaning or planting flowers.
Caterpillars transform into something beautiful just like we transform into adults in middle school. Butterflies are beautiful and delicate one of my students said to the class so if we are really careful we can help them all grow from caterpillars to butterflies.
My students have five weeks to complete their project and it will be just the right time to release the butterflies into the wild. We'll use the National Geographic Readers: Caterpillar to Butterfly for science background information.
This project is something interesting, exciting, helpful to the community, and very very educational for my students.
