Our after school program serves on average sixty students from kindergarten to sixth grade five days a week, Monday through Friday. We give our children and their parents a safe alternative to being latch key children. During after school, our teachers offer our children skill specific tutoring, homework help, and a time to play.
Our students are hard-working, innovative, and always eager to learn.
They love participating in hands-on activities, challenging themselves in both critical and creative thought, and building relationships and community in working together and helping one another. Our students jump at the opportunity to try something new, and the program's teachers foster in each the motivation and positive self-esteem to accomplish anything.
My Project
Have you ever placed the last piece in a puzzle? Have you felt the excitement of screaming "Uno!" and holding that last single card in your hand? Have you ever pulled a Jenga piece from the tower only to stare in amazement that the precarious structure was still standing? We want our students to experience these and so much more. The after school teachers would like to purchase a variety of games and puzzles to enhance the play portion of our after school program. Research supports and we believe that play is an essential building block for both cognitive and emotional development.
Play is the means by which children learn about themselves and others.
Through play and interaction, childen build their language, learn to take turns, develop both fine and gross motor skills, and work to resolve conflict with compromise. Play time gives children true down time - time to relax, take a breath, and simply have fun.
