Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Can you just imagine hearing a group of children learning to speak words for the first time? It is such an exciting moment and you can be a part of this wonderful experience for one group of inner city multicultural hearing-impaired and VERY EXCITED students. I am the teacher for these wonderful children. These energetic, ‘ear-resistible’ 3-6 years olds are just chomping at the bit to learn the same things as their counterparts. They are from various cultures and bilingual homes and truly want to overcome their particular handicap in order to learn how to communicate.

Many times the children are so excited about learning a new word that they can’t wait to go home and tell their families about the words. However, when they get home, family members can’t always understand them and their excitement turns to frustration. Therefore, we use a lot of pictures, drawings, and books to help with language development. These pictures help bring each word to life. Part of the challenge though, is that we don’t have enough pictures or other resources to help students adequately develop their language skills.

We want to create a Language Enrichment Library to reinforce, encourage and develop these language skills. We desire to create picture books of daily classroom activities, field trips, special events and personal portfolios of each child’s language achievement. We need a digital camera, card, paper, and ink to create this library for our students. We have been given a printer but we have nothing else with which to create this project. As each student works to create their own book, it will reinforce the language skills they are learning and develop self confidence along the way.

You will make it possible for the deaf to speak by helping fund this awesome and exciting project for my inner city ‘ear-resistible’ children. Will you please help us?
