My Students

I am inspired every day by my students. They are always excited to come to enrichment class. They are enthusiastic, energetic, and curious about the world around them. Their enthusiasm inspires me to create challenging and thought-provoking lessons. They always want more. I am the gifted specialist in a public school in the mountains of North Carolina. My students come from diverse backgrounds. I teach first through sixth grade in small groups. I presently serve about 120 students throughout the week. My students are always up for a challenge. They thrive on challenging materials, probing questions, and interesting lessons. They amaze me every day with their "out of the box" thinking.

My Project

My students need multiple copies of books such as Ruby Holler by Sharon Creech. We are in our fourth year with an Elementary Battle of the Books team, and we want to this tradition to continue for many years. Battle of the Books is a great way to motivate students to read in a game setting. This creates interest and excitement in reading while students improve reading skills and acquire a broader knowledge base. Students are exposed to quality literature from a variety of authors. In order for our team to be able to read all 15 books, study, discuss, and practice, we need resources. Our students need multiple copies of the books from the 2018-2019 NC Elementary Battle of the Books. Multiple copies will allow the students to read all the books from this year's list and help them to collaborate, create questions, and enrich their discussions. These books will not only be used for this 2018-2019 team, they will be used for years to come in small group reading groups and future teams.
