Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My Quetzal classroom is composed of 3rd graders who are learning all core subjects in Spanish (Math, Science, Social Studies, and Language Arts) for the majority of the day, about 4 hours daily.

My students are an eager group that is excited to acquire as much knowledge as they can!

Whether that is in math, science, or Spanish class, it rarely matters as they are all eager to show what they are learning and understanding from their lessons. They always give me their all and work to achieve the high expectations I have for them. Therefore, I need to always be stepping up to the plate to continuously challenge them.

I want to make sure I am providing the best education and experience for my students. This means giving them rigorous material that challenges them as well as giving them spaces that allow them to work at their comfort and being able to collaborate with their peers.

My Project

Reading is such a valuable part of every classroom, no matter what subject is being taught. From reading story problems in math to reading fiction books in Spanish, reading is a part of EVERY day in the classroom!

I want my students to have a comfortable corner in the classroom that they can claim as their own Quetzal reading corner.

As an immersion classroom, having a U.S. map carpet gives the students the opportunity to constantly see the map in English before I teach it in Spanish for social studies. The pillow allows one of our lockers to be used for another seating option, especially as they move around in the classroom for various activities. Finally, the couch will be another comfortable spot in the reading corner that will give more students space to sit in it.
