Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are all one of a kind. Most of them come from poverty, unstable home lives, providing for not only themselves, but their siblings, fear of gangs, and peer pressure. There isn't much that sets them apart from the normal student to outsiders, but to me, they are the strongest people I know.

These students are products of their urban environment.

These students do not get to have their own books, let alone the trust they deserve. My classroom has one set of books to be shared with 80+ students throughout the week. My classroom library has about 30 books, all worn down with love. With more books added to my classroom library, students will be able to find books they love. They can participate in reading challenges, book club discussions or find an escape from reality for a little while.

I want my students to be able to have a choice in what they want to read. They should be advocates of their own learning and reading. Our school library is a place they can visit, but I want us to share our love for reading inside the classroom as well. Please help me share a love for reading with my students!
