Legos, Rewards and Whiteboards for Students in Need

Help me give my students access to differentiated instruction and intervention. Through snack as reinforcers and for students who come to school hungry Legos to differentiate mathematics instruction.

My Project

Help me help my students access effective differentiated instruction and intervention while they are here at school. The Legos, dry erase long division board, and the rolling whiteboard will be used to differentiate instruction so students can learn the four operations using Legos, as well as using a graphic organizer as they begin to learn long division. The Legos will be organized into bins for students to use in stations to demonstrate their understanding of each of the four operations in mathematics. Additionally, Legos can be used as a student reward break to reinforce behavior, academics and more. The snacks will be helpful not only for students to "purchase" during mathematics lessons as they learn money skills, calculating change and coin identification, but also for students who unfortunately come to school hungry and have a difficult time staying focused as a result. For our Special Education students, these Legos and snack will not only be reinforcing but will help them to access the material and achieve higher levels of growth than they otherwise would have - in a fun way! Lastly, the rolling whiteboards will be utilized for small-group instruction when whole-class instruction is not entirely appropriate. These will give us the opportunity to pull students to a space outside of the classroom that may not already have a whiteboard.

In addition to this, Legos will help my students who learn differently and require additional manipulatives and alternate approaches accelerate their learning through these enrichment opportunities not only utilizing Legos, but utilizing "play" money to "buy" snacks and other rewards as part of a mathematics lesson.

The snacks will not only benefit these students, but they will also be incredibly beneficial for our students who arrive to school hungry.
