Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have 32 wonderful 6th-grade students. Many of them come from very rough backgrounds. Our school is in Californina. At our school, 100% of our students receive free lunch, and many stay after school to attend the after-school CAPS program. Most of my students live in the low-income apartments located across the street from our school. They are extremely sweet, kind, and smart individuals, but need a lot of love and support to help them through the things they are facing on a daily basis.
My Project
I have been looking for fun and engaging ways for us to practice our math skills. One skill my class still needs some practice in is area and perimeter. I would love to have stations where groups can practice area and perimeter using Legos. They will be able to create their own environment using legos and then will be able to write out the dimensions on a separate worksheet and present it to the class. They would not only get practice by finding the perimeter of their design but would also be able to find the area of the objects that are a part of their Lego masterpiece.
Thank you so much for considering donating to our project!
