My students need Lego kits to enhance hands-on, creative learning for my students across the curriculum; science, math, social studies, communication, writing and assessment

My Students

My students are great, fun, loving, students who are full of life. These students come from many different backgrounds; foster care, adopted, single parent, grandparent raising, and group homes. A large majority of my students face hunger, lack of proper clothing, and home support.

My students’ face struggles that students should not have to go through, but each day they still come to school with smiles on their faces and eagerness to learn and better their selves.

We are a Title I school. We are a diverse population with 43% Caucasian, 49% African American and 8% Other. School is the safe place and home for my students. School is where they know they are accepted and wanted.

My Project

Legos will be used for creating understanding and serve as a visual for showing historical events, changes over time, government branches, diverse cultures, fractions, area, perimeter, solar system, shadows, Earth's surfaces, body parts, plants, fables, myths and more. Students will be able to create scenes with Legos then write about the scene forming creative, elaborate, and entertaining stories while integrating the knowledge they gained from the standard taught.

The more students are engaged through hands-on creative activities, the less they feel the pressure of learning.

Benjamin Franklin stated it best, “Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, Involve me and I learn!"

Lego influenced lessons let students become involved, creative, and collaborative with their classmates when working together. It helps them to articulate their understanding in both their conversations and building while explaining what they learned.
