Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

Raising literacy levels is a key priority for the school library. Scholars are read to weekly in addition to having time to read independently during their library class. Reading response is an important part of the reading process. It helps the scholars apply comprehension strategies as well as internalize what they have read. Responding to reading reinforces other important language skills such as writing, listening, speaking and presenting.

The use of Legos will reinforce reading response skills and allow scholars to express learning in a nontraditional way.

Scholars will be able to use the Legos to recreate the setting of the story or extend the story by creating a new setting and /or characters. Scholars will work in groups to express their thoughts, while listening to others and their responses, furthering the scholars language skills.
