Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

This year I am teaching kindergarten and I am fortunate to work with such a diverse group of wonderful students. Every day they are eager to learn and they love to be at school. I enjoy teaching them and watching their minds grow as they explore, question, create and learn.

I am super excited to see what this new school year will bring.

Many of my kindergartners are English Language Learners. The school that I work at is a Title I school in Las Vegas, NV, which means that many of my students come from low-income households. I want to provide as much as I can for my kindergarteners in the classroom so that they have the tools to be successful this school year.

My Project

LEGO sets are one of the best educational manipulatives for kindergarten students. Having LEGO sets in the classroom helps develop multiple skills. LEGO sets are also a developmentally appropriate way for kindergarten students to learn our rigorous science standards.

STEM education is important and teaches important social skills that are crucial for success in a student's education.

Having LEGO STEM kits in the classroom would create opportunities for my kindergarten students to collaborate, develop hand-eye coordination, encourage discourse, and help them engineer and build simple machines together. STEM projects like the one in these kits help teach these skills without students even realizing how much they're learning.
