Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have a group of very diverse students from pre-k through 5th grade. They all learn at extremely different learning paces but they work so hard at trying to find success. They are from a high poverty area and don't have much themselves but, with what they do have, they offer to each other generously! They look forward to working hard and finding creative ways to use their many skills. My students may not have much, but they are greatly appreciative of any opportunity that is presented to them.
My Project
Transforming the writing block from what tradition has taught us can be a daunting task. But in a world where future careers are being created, in fields we could have only dreamed of, we must also let that imagination and creativity seep back into our classrooms.
"Creativity is intelligence having fun!" When we allow our students' creative juices flow, we don't simply allow them to have fun; we allow them to use the intelligence they have gained thus far and become better problem solvers with creative thinking skills.
These LEGO Community kits will allow my students to see writing in a different way. Too often we teach our students formulaic writing without giving them a voice. In my class, I hope to inspire them to express their voice by creating LEGO stories: first through play, then by getting their thoughts and ideas down to paper, and finally through movie making and stop animation.
