Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have a very special group of students. They are all talented and excited when it comes to learning new things. I want each of them to have faith in themselves and see themselves as I do. Each one is special and has so much to offer the world. Our school is a Title I school, with over 65% of our students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch.
We also have a large ELL population and many migrant families.
The children from migrant families spend most of the year split between multiple schools causing a disruption in their education for which I must try to make up while they are with me. Although my students come with these obstacles in their path, they are able to enjoy learning and remind me of the joys as well.
My Project
Most of us remember spending hours creating and building with Legos as kids. Little did we know that we were learning while playing. LEGOs make learning fun and engaging. When students are following building rules, they are using engineering skills, working with precision and accuracy. When students are designing on their own, they are using their creativity skills.
Teaching today’s students requires instructional practices and activities that are creative and that meet their learning needs and interests.
LEGOs will increase my students' creative thinking skills. There will be no limit to what my students can accomplish with these new hands-on, creative learning tools. My students will be required to work in small groups increasing their social skills & abilities to work together. It will make learning meaningful for them as they accomplish challenges together and innovate their creations.
