My Students

My students are the first third grade class in a brand new school. They have come from many different schools in the area and are learning to create a new community. They are currently doing their best without all the science supplies they need.

As a STEM school, I need supplies to be able to engage my students in science, technology, engineering, and math.

After attending Lego professional development, I knew exactly what I needed to get my students excited in these areas.

My Project

I will rotate the entire third grade into my classroom to teach them simple machines by using Lego. Each group of students will come to my classroom for an hour each week to build simple machines. Each kit will be used with two students working together.

Through the use of Lego, I will be able to make the STEM curriculum more engaging for my students.

The students will be able to explore how force and motion work simultaneously and how simple machines make work easier. They will take the models they build and find other ways to make work easier.

The third grade students will explore more, learn more, be engaged more, and enjoy science, technology, engineering, and math more.
