Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Ideally students will come in to kindergarten with a firm foundation in early/pre-literacy skills. As well as a firm foundation in numeracy skills. Unfortunately, this is not always the case. With the pressure of moving students further and further with in their learning, student lacking in this foundation can find it difficult to catch up.

Students need exposure to these different skills, and they need a variety in their exposure.

Young learners thrive on the being able to learn the skill without it becoming rote and didactic. Giving them ways to play and learn these early skills will push them further along then other more suffocating methods.

By utilizing the unlock it number match, students will be able to gain a firmer understanding of numbers matching amounts giving them a better number sense. While still making it more enjoyable and different than other methods.

This is also true for students learning their letter names and sounds. The unlock alphabet will allow them to be able to get a better understanding of the matching for upper and lower case letter as well as a picture giving them the beginning sound. They will enjoy the activity but still be able to get a better understanding of the concept.

With addition and subtraction, students need a more concrete, hands on, and enjoyable ways to grasp the concepts. The simple subtraction center, simple addition center, and the snap simple addition center will give them this while giving them a variety of engaging activities to do this.
