Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are enthusiastic kindergartners who love to learn and grow their brains. They are in need of more hands on learning activities to help them develop and understand early literacy, math, and science concepts.
My students are able to access curriculum when provided concrete opportunities to practice what is being taught.
My students are from diverse cultural backgrounds and ethnicity. Many languages are spoken by students include Spanish, Portuguese, and Igbo. About 80% of students are on free and reduced lunch. Our school is located in a community which is diverse in culture and language. Our families are very supportive and involved in their child's education. Although technology is used in our classroom each day I believe that they can gain a deeper knowledge as well as social emotional skills through the use of more hands on exploratory learning experiences.
My Project
These materials will allow the 25 students in my class to grow their fine motor skills, imagination, and critical thinking skills. They will use the STEAM fairy tale set to increase their knowledge and ability to memorize their favorite storybooks while also practicing their ability to build and put shapes together. They will use the dice to practice and support fluency in math and reading. The dice and sight word games will also support their social emotional development and turn taking skills. Scholars will love playing grocery store with the cash register and food items to practice using their imaginations and allow them to practice interacting with peers.
These materials will allow scholars to move and use their hands which will help them GROW their Brains!
We will use all of these materials during different parts of the day to support differentiation and small groups in the classroom. Scholars will be engaged in these stations that are much more meaningful than paper pencil work.
