Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Over 80 percent of my students are English Language Learners, and all of the students receive free breakfast and lunch due to the socioeconomic status of the families. As a result, the school is a Title I school and the students would benefit from any additional resources that would enhance their educational experience. Now that we are back to school face to face my students are eager for hands-on science experiences. They also love to move around the classroom and I would love to provide them with different choices to support their learning.

My Project

Some of my students prefer not to sit the entire class period and like to move around. I incorporate movement into my lessons as much as possible but these items will allow for other ways for my student to release the need to move. These materials will be used to give my students choice in the classroom when it comes to movement that will also help them focus on their learning.

According to cult of pedagogy.com, studies show that physical activity activates the brain, improves cognitive function, and is correlated with improved academic performance (Donnelly & Lambourne, 2011).

This means any kind of physical activity, not just movement associated with the material we’re learning, can benefit students academically.
