My kindergarten students come to school with a wide array of skills and knowledge as some have attended preschool or daycare and others have stayed home. We are a diverse school with students coming to us from many different backgrounds and experiences.
We pride ourselves on building a strong sense of community and instilling a love of learning in all children.
My students are active learners and curious about the world around them. They love learning in a variety of ways including interacting with technology, creating/experimenting through hands-on learning and engaging in play. Because they come to kindergarten with a broad spectrum of learning experiences and background knowledge, it is important to meet their many diverse needs and learning styles.
My Project
With the requested funds I would like to purchase LEGO sets for my students to use during morning STEM work stations and afternoon choice time. The LEGO sets I would like to purchase would all focus on vehicles to go along with our current sets that focus on community workers.
My kindergarten students would benefit from having LEGO sets in our classroom as it would provide them opportunities to build using their math spatial skills and to engage in dramatic play.
Students can build the LEGO sets while focusing on following step-by-step directions, applying math and strengthening their fine motor development. Students can also engage in dramatic play with peers and work on problem solving skills as they build and play.
