Have you ever had a 4-year-old show you a picture that has a story. They tell the story with such delight you start seeing it in their artwork. These stories that might seem meaningless at the time are helping to develop that child’s vocabulary. While they were making that picture, they were using their fine motor skills by cutting, glueing, and adding to their creation. They were using their creativity and thinking about each item they were going to put on that piece. Maybe they add something and noticed it was too big or too heavy for this particular spot. In that moment they were using their problem-solving skills to figure out what would work and what would not.
Art is a significant part of a Pre-K classroom.
