The students at my school are from a rural farm community. We have a small school at the edge of a large corporation. Our students come from all socioeconomic backgrounds. We are lucky to have great families that work hard and are involved in our school events, but we don't get a lot of extra funding from the state. This is due to our school not qualifying as a Title I school. Title I schools have a higher level of free and reduced-price lunches than we currently have.
My sweet kiddos are hard workers, but they have lots of extra energy and thrive during hands-on activities.
We try to keep moving around our classroom several times throughout the day to help with this. I also have tried to incorporate a flexible seating environment to keep their little bodies wiggling, while engaged in learning, while at our seats. We have had a lot of success when we use hands-on manipulatives and activities.
I love to provide learning opportunities that will get my students moving, thinking, and stimulating their learning by creating.
My Project
My students need a new Learning Wall Calendar! We inherited one with the classroom, and it is missing so many pieces. We use it every day, and I have made do, but it would be so nice to be able to have a brand new one with the correct items, so we could do even more learning with all the parts, like the 100 board and money. Even if we switch to distance learning, this is a key part of our day that I will continue by moving the Calendar home with me.
My students need to have hands-on learning experiences to keep them engaged, the Calendar and Magic Boards will provide them with that learning opportunity.
I have some of the mini Magic Boards, but they are very small. These larger ones will give my students an opportunity to practice not only letters but words and addition math problems, as well. These Magic Boards could also be sent home with my students on their "At Home" learning day and also if we go to all remote learning. My students are currently on an alternating A/B schedule to keep our in-person numbers lower.
