I haven’t met any of my students yet, but I know for a fact I am going to love all of my students! My goal as a teacher has always been to create a classroom that is welcoming, inviting and feels like a second home for my students. I believe that that is the most important aspect for students to feel comfortable learning in a new, unfamiliar setting.
Learning through play is my favorite way to learn!
Kindergartners love playing and are able to focus for longer periods of time when they are playing with hands on activities. Creating centers, morning bins, and “when I’m finished” activities is, in my opinion, one of the best ways to let students play while learning. My hope with this project is to provide my students with the manipulatives necessary to learn, play, and love the environment they come to everyday!
My Project
The materials I am requesting for my classroom are going to help create a classroom that is fun, inviting and hands-on! As a second year teacher at a public community school, the small amount of the manipulatives and materials that are in my classroom are all purchased myself. I am hoping that this project will be funded so I am able to provide my students with the best year in kindergarten that I possibly can!
Because my school specializes in Autism, I have many students who grasp concepts and skills better with tactile learning.
Alphabet stamps, draw and trace boards and lined draw erase board with alphabet magnets will help my students learn the letters, CVC words and sight words through hands-on activities. Math manipulatives such as base 10 blocks, geo-boards, Unifix Cubes, and Magnatiles will help my students explore different math concepts while having fun and engaging in hands-on activities with their friends.
Creating a fun and engaging classroom environment is always my biggest goal, because I believe that children learn better if they are comfortable and having fun in the classroom. I want to provide my students with an education that not only helps excel them as they travel through school, but also instills a love of learning. I feel that using manipulatives like the ones listed down below will help me to reach my goal!
