My students need a bright, fun carpet to sit on in our first gade classroom, helping to ensure each child has their own personal space during reading and learning time.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My enthusiastic first graders make teaching a pure joy. In first grade, they spend a great deal of time of their learning on the rug. Here I can make sure they are all engaged and understanding concepts taught. They love listening to me read aloud. Their favorite book series is Junie B. Jones.
My first graders are kind, loving and always thankful for anything given to them.
They respond so well to positive reinforcement and praise, and try so hard to please. They attend a very large school, but know they are safe and cared for. My first grade team does a lot of team teaching for several subject areas each day, so although I have a homeroom of 24 students, I have the unique opportunity to teach many others in the grade level. Many of our students are second language learners, and one of our rotations daily is for English Language Instruction and Development.
My Project
We do a lot of learning on the rug area at the front of the classroom. I have found that with my young students, sitting closer to the teacher to listen to stories read aloud , or do math on whiteboards, engages them more, as well as holding them all accountable for learning. I also have other students come in throughout the day for reading and English Language Development instruction. All have assigned spots on the floor which tend to get a bit confusing. A bright, colorful, area rug with designated colored shapes would make assigned spots much easier for all the students rotating in my room throughout the day as well as my homeroom students who spend a good portion of their day there. The classroom area rug I have requested has colors as well as shapes that could be incorporated into learning.
This donation will make my classroom environment even more welcoming and engaging.
Students will be thrilled to have a special, designated shape/color to sit upon. This rug will prevent students from feeling squished or chatting about which space is theirs. These things are serious business to a 6-7 year old! I kindly thank you for your consideration.
