Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have the most optimistic, hard-working, and loving K-5 students. They come from a low-income community in South-East San Diego. I say low-income and not impoverished because these children come from families of hope. They may not have the financial benefits of families in other neighborhoods, but the parents make sure their children come to school with a positive attitude and are ready for learning.

Our school population is 82.5% Hispanic, 10.5 % African American, and 3.5% white, 1.6% Asian, American Indian .5%, and .7% two or more races.

96.8% of the students are socioeconomically disadvantaged, 51% of our students are English Learners, 16% are students with disabilities, and 15% are homeless.

My Project

Our amazing students will be doing hands-on learning in our new STEAM lab. We will be using human anatomy models to introduce healthy habits and anatomy. This will be followed by vocabulary studies and discussions for clarification. Then we will begin studying, drawing, and building clay models of the body parts labeled with ways to take care of the body parts.

We have wonderful students, full of positivity and energy.

We are an inner-city school, without any outside funds. Many of our STEAM projects do not cost much and I can purchase materials at the Dollar Store. However, there are other projects that require kits. Soon we will be studying anatomy while learning about taking care of our bodies. If you believe in these students, please donate a few dollars to help us purchase valuable anatomy kits for our lab. A couple of bucks can make a big difference.
