Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach literacy to an 8th grade bilingual class in a high-poverty, high-needs neighborhood. Many of the students recently arrived to the US and are just learning how to read in English. Right now I have a set of 8 headphones and CD player, but I don't have any Cd's or books to complete a listening center.

My students are eager to raise their English reading level and become proficient in English. Since my class is very large (at full capacity), it is difficult for me to differentiate to all student levels and give every student the opportunity to hear a native English speaker read to them at their level.

A listening center would allow students to go to a special corner in the class and listen to books being read to them. They will develop early listening skills while learning new vocabulary.

Your generous donation will give my students the opportunity to be exposed to a variety of rich children's literature!
