This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are freshmen, sophomores, and juniors, all with learning disabilities and dyslexia. My students require multi-modes of input to learn. They receive their English and reading classes in an instructional, self-contained setting to provide intensive supports in a small group setting.

They are part of a multi-sensory reading program, which is a highly structured program using many styles of learning to help students who are either non-readers or far below their grade level.

Our school is a neighborhood school located in a high poverty area with limited resources, so there is a lack of materials and resources to support and engage students.

My Project

The Touch & Read Phonics Sentence Match will help students build phonics skills in a hands-on, tactile way, within the context of simple sentences. The Phonics Crossword Puzzles Activity Centers will help students build phonics skills in a hands-on manner by building words. These resources will help develop skills in phonics, CVC words, beginning sounds, blends and digraphs, and vowel sounds. Learning to read is difficult, especially in high school.

Having a variety of resources to engage students and interest them in learning to read is important to motivating them.

These resources will provide students with a variety of activities they can choose to use to enjoy improving their reading levels. Improving their reading levels is the first step in improving students' confidence and improving their quality of life for the future.
