My Project

I am a kindergarten reading teacher. I see all kindergarten students every day. Many of our little ones test "not ready" on the Brigance Entrance Screener. It isn't unusual to only have 25% or less score at the benchmark they should. My point is that there are many struggling students in our area.

I am requesting reading materials that will provide engaging experiences to enhance their literacy skills.

Some items I am requesting include: Alphabet bowling, Float and Find Alphabet, Build the Letter Activity Center, Tactile Letters, and more, especially for struggling and special education students. All of these are multi-sensory activities, which is known to enhance student learning. I have an assistant in my classroom, so we can put students into groups and have them move from station to station doing these activities and games. We also will be beginning an after school program next school year, so these activities will be great to use during that time as well.

I also requested some workbooks with decodable readers. Those will be used to send home with students and have them use during class to practice their targeted phonics skill.
