Learning to Read From the Beginning

Help me give my students the tools they need to learn how to read.

My Students

This year I have 7 students on my caseload. At first, six were in person and one was receiving homebound services. Now the homebound comes 1.5 hours a day to receive his services. They range from 2nd grade to 5th grade. Most of my students are african american and we are a low income school. Most of them have difficulties learning to read and need to start with the basics of letters and sounds before building words and then reading.

My Project

These materials will help my students who struggle with reading at the very beginning level on learning the basic sounds each letter makes. English is the most complicated language for English and Non-English speakers.

With masks still in place, it has been difficult to show mouth placement when we are working on a sound.

The face cards will really help my students be able to see what their mouth should look like when they are saying each sound. Also, the charts will help students see where certain sounds go and how we hear them.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
