My Project

The selected items include a wide assortment of common word and language games and other game items that can be made into word games.

My 6th - 8th Literacy Enrichment classes focus on intervention for selected students in all areas of literacy including spelling, morphology, vocabulary, fluency, critical thinking, word retrieval skills, figurative language, and response to text.

Since starting in middle school this year, I have purchased and made several word games to play with students as a fun team-building and learning component for my class. In doing so, I quickly realized that most of my students had never played these games before and in a lot of instances never even heard of them.

After introducing and teaching a few games to my classes, along with strategies for successful playing, I saw a shift in their thinking and confidence. Games they had never played because they assumed they wouldn't be good at it or that it was boring have become activities they look forward to participating in, feel successful at, and are excited to teach new students joining us for the first time!

I'd love the opportunity to continue to build the interest and capacity of my students by introducing and building a love of an even wider selection of word games as well as to continue to help them see their knowledge, abilities, and capabilities in a different light while solidifying a love for reading and reading based games that they can share with friends and family for a lifetime.
