During independent reading and writing time, students choose where they feel most focused—some sit in saucer chairs with their novels, others stretch out on the new rug with clipboards, and a few gather around the small table to collaborate. This setup has encouraged them to take more ownership of their learning spaces and to make choices that support their focus and comfort. It's been rewarding to see how something as simple as a seating option can increase participation and motivation in class discussions and assignments.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first walked in and saw the new furniture and rug, their excitement was contagious. They immediately started exploring every option—testing out the stools, sitting in the saucer chairs, and commenting on how cozy the rug made the room feel. A few students who typically struggle to stay engaged were the first to grab a seat and start reading, which showed me just how much these tools matter. They couldn't believe that people they'd never met had donated to help make our classroom a better place.\r\n\r\nThank you so much for helping to make my classroom a more engaging space for all of my students!","fullyFundedDate":1753367381808,"projectUrl":"project/comfort-concentration-seating-that-su/9368815/","projectTitle":"Comfort = Concentration: Seating that Supports Students","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Gans","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5216748_orig.jpg?crop=631,631,x379,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1702658013939","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5216748"},{"teacherId":7999441,"projectId":9382794,"letterContent":"The fish tank DonorsChoose project has had a wonderful impact on our 7th grade classroom. From the very beginning, students were excited to be part of the process by voting on the fish's name, which gave them a sense of ownership and pride. We even created a classroom job for feeding him, which has helped students practice responsibility and accountability. The fish quickly became part of our daily routine, and the tank has turned into a focal point of our classroom community.\r\n\r\nStudents now rush to check on him before class starts and often stop by the tank on their way out the door, eager to interact with him. Beyond excitement, though, the fish has become a calming presence in the room. Some students who struggle to settle in at the start of class use the fish as a tool to regulate their emotions and prepare themselves for learning. Watching him swim provides a moment of peace, helping them reset and refocus.\r\n\r\nOverall, the project has been a great success, exceeding expectations in how much joy and comfort it has brought to our classroom. The fish has helped strengthen our sense of community while also serving as a supportive tool for students' social and emotional needs. I imagine that we will continue to benefit from this addition for a long time to come, both in building classroom connections and in supporting students' well-being.","fullyFundedDate":1750256175706,"projectUrl":"project/a-calming-aquarium-to-inspire-middle-sch/9382794/","projectTitle":"A Calming Aquarium to Inspire Middle School Reading and Writing","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Avila","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7999441_orig.jpg?crop=1184,1184,x156,y372&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1660146478613","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7999441"},{"teacherId":5216748,"projectId":8800705,"letterContent":"I hope this message finds you well! I wanted to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude for your generous donation towards getting a pet fish for our classroom. Thanks to your support, we now have a beautiful Betta fish and tank that is adding so much joy and learning to our space.\r\n\r\nThe students were absolutely thrilled when they first saw the new tank and materials. Their eyes lit up with excitement, and they couldn't wait to gather around and observe the fish swimming in their new home. The joy and curiosity in their faces were priceless! It's clear that this new addition has sparked their imagination, and it's already having a wonderful impact on our classroom dynamics.\r\n\r\nWe are using the fish tank to enhance lessons on responsibility. The students are learning about the care and feeding of our fish and observing how they interact with their environment. It has also become a great tool for teaching about the importance of keeping a living being healthy and happy. The kids are taking turns being \"fish caretakers,\" which is helping them develop a sense of responsibility and teamwork.\r\n\r\nThank you again for making this possible. Your donation is not only providing our class with a pet fish but also enriching our learning environment in ways I couldn't have imagined. I'm so excited to see how the students continue to grow and learn through this wonderful experience.","fullyFundedDate":1726944354974,"projectUrl":"project/class-pet/8800705/","projectTitle":"Class Pet","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Gans","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5216748_orig.jpg?crop=631,631,x379,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1702658013939","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5216748"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_60584","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":619,"numTeachers":53,"percentFrplEligible":46,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":77,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":15,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"11.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":71.9,"schoolId":60584,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about O'Maley Innovation Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"O'Maley Innovation Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/massachusetts/gloucester-public-school-district/ralph-b-o-maley-middle-school/60584"}
