Teachers are constantly trying to improve math fluency by sending “math games” home to be played by the families. In many cases the math in these games are too straightforward with cards of math problems for players to solve, or numbered spaces to count. They are usually far from fun, only allowing kids to practice math facts or formulas. They lack the opportunity for the player to choose from different actions, strategize or even plan ahead. Math is embedded in board games in a fun interactive way! Many games integrate deeper mathematical thinking into the gameplay to develop skills such as multi-step problem-solving, computation, patterning, and probability. Board games are one way we can experience the beauty of math all around us whether we are 5 or 55. I'm requesting twenty-five Sorry board games for our Game Family Night. So, helping your children improve their math skills is easy by simply playing board and card games. Please help us bring back family game night!
