My Students

As a third year teacher, I am coming into the classroom with minimal materials, but full of motivation to mold our future leaders' brains. This year I am spending my first year teaching 3rd grade and want to start the year off prepared! Most of my students come from homes with few resources (especially after Hurricane Florence) and are unable to bring necessary materials to class. The majority of my students receive free lunch, as well as Backpack Buddies (making sure they have food at home on the weekends.) After Hurricane Florence our students and our schools suffered some serious loss. A lot of the students in our school were forced to leave their homes and move to alternative housing. We are currently in the process of building back up our community.

No child should feel held back from learning because they don't have necessary materials in the classroom.

I want to see every one of my students succeed in and out of the classroom. With the proper materials, I am positive it will make a major, positive, impact in my classroom!

My Project

Encouraging students to read can sometimes be a struggle. My goal is to have a classroom that encourages student to get comfy and step into the world of reading. Picture books are a great way to get children motivated to read. It's often hard to display picture books when they are all in a row together on a shelf. I would like to have a bookcase where they can see what picture books are available to them in our room.

I want every child to have the opportunity to find a book that they connect with.

I would also like to add in more flexible seating to ensure every student in my class is able to get out of their seats and find a more pleasant setting to read in.
