Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are the reason I teach and the reason I want to improve. My students are the reason for why I want to expand my own knowledge and experiences in this world.
My students are the best and most resilient young adults in this world.
I may be a little biased here, but everything I do is an effort to be a better educator and role model for them.
I fear that some of my students may not travel outside of Massachusetts for years to come, if ever. I know that many of them, although having immigrated from the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico, do not completely understand the extent to which the world is filled with miraculous wonders.
I want my students to gain a better understanding of who they are. I also want them to grasp the idea of how where they came from plays a vital role in their identity, but also where they choose to go plays a crucial role in how their identity will evolve over time. I want to help them become their own heroes.
My Project
Many of my scholars are reading below grade level, but the texts we read in class are all at or above a 7th grade reading level. This makes independent reading at home a real challenge at times.
Kids love to read, but often are discouraged by challenging texts that are far above their current reading level.
My hope is that these SanDisk Flash Mp3 Player 8GB - Black (SDMX24008K) MP3 players will enable my students who struggle the most to be able to access the literature we are reading in class and improve their own reading comprehension and fluency- particularly those who are learning English as a second language.
