Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I work with the most amazing individuals in a Pre-K Links low-income public school classroom. My classroom consists of up to seven extraordinary students, all on the lower spectrum of autism.

Some of my students are non-verbal or have a very limited amount of expressive language, and need a lot of assistance in working at home and in the school environment to succeed.

My students work so hard and are super eager to learn.

My mission is to help my students achieve learning expectations in the classroom, as they all learn differently in their own individual ways. Many of my students come from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds, which presents many financial challenges for these students and their families. The materials requested will help to support their classroom learning, building on critical skills they must utilize to reach their individual goals.

My Project

All of my students who enter my classroom are always ready and eager to learn new things. My extraordinary students are all mostly non-verbal, and therefore using sensory and cause and effect toys will help them to explore their own environments. The materials requested will assist all of my students with their specific learning needs. In using sensory materials such as the liquid floor tiles, chalk, toddler activity set, wipe boards, the liquid letters, and sensory beads will allow my students to explore their many senses. Many things in my classroom is also made from laminating where activities and social stories are made to improvement their behaviors.

In using sensory, cause and effect toys, and multiple activities made in the classroom, my students are able to mimic their sounds, use their fine motor skills, and explore using their sight as well as building on their listening skills.

Using a wheeled stool is also beneficial for the classroom, as my students have a hard time sitting independently during group times. This will enable easier access to assist them more quickly. Learning through play is one of the most crucial forms of learning where my non-verbal students are able to improve their social, math, science, reading, and thinking skill.
