Help me give my students new toys for center play. My students need new sensory toys, materials for the sensory table, dramatic play toys and hands-on manipulatives.
My class is comprised of 25 amazing students with varying special needs including autism, global developmental delays and typical peers. Many of my students need accommodations made across their day in order for them to be successful. This includes using a wide variety of engaging materials, clear organized play areas, and hands on materials My students require a high level of prompting in order to learn skills that will lead to independence.
Each of these students has their own unique needs and ways of learning but they have one thing in common: the need to be successful.
My Project
I have the pleasure of teaching preschool students in an ABA preschool program that includes both typically developing students and children with special needs.
Most of what children need to learn during their early childhood years cannot be taught: it is discovered through play.
Play is fundamental in the early childhood environment. Through play my students are able to use their imaginations and pretend they are someone else while developing age appropriate social emotional skills. Preschool age children love to express their imagination through role play and dramatic play. It is through role play, dramatic play and sensory toys that children can express and work through feelings, learn how to socialize and communicate, Most importantly learn how to problem solve and show empathy to their peers.
