Help me give my students engineering centers, a marble run, magnetic building tiles, toy animals, a paint easel, and wooden dolls to help explore fine motor development, critical thinking skills, and imaginative play.
I have a class full of twenty fun, loving, and creative kindergarteners who live in the great state of Alaska. A portion of my families are in the military. All of my students love to play and explore the world around them. Play and learning are vital components to a kindergarten classroom. My class is in need of toys to support fine motor development, social skill practice, and decision making skills. Play based learning is critical in helping kindergarteners learn and grow!
My Project
Exploration time is a special time of day in a kindergarten classroom. Students are building, talking, creating, using their imagination to explore and learn. Toys are tools used to support child development. During exploration time, they are building their social skills, strengthening their fine motor skills, and working on hand-eye coordination. The engineering centers, marble run, and magnetic tiles will be used to help students design structures that look like real-life buildings, bridges, and/or vehicles. These toys promote open-ended building to construct anything the children can conceptualize. The art easel will be used to promote ideas, explore colors/shapes, and express feelings in an authentic way. The alphabet stamps will be used to explore letters with word creation and build upon strengthening the fine motor muscles. The wooden dolls and tub of animals will be used in imaginative play. These students deserve toys that create open-ended inquiry and support their social competence and fine motor development.
