"Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I may remember. Involve me and I learn." ~ attributed to Benjamin Franklin. Motivating and engaging activities are a must for a class of 21 first graders! Integrating math games and manipulatives into the classroom is a way to involve students in their learning.
Welcome to first grade!
I have 21 exciting and active first grade students in my class. My students attend a rural, high poverty school. Roughly half of my students come from families of low socioeconomic status. We have a lot of hard work to do in first grade! With this active group, I need a way to engage, motivate, and involve my students in their learning. Incorporating math games and manipulatives into daily math centers would benefit my students immensely, so that they have the tools that they need to take charge of their education!
My Project
My students will use the math games during our math center time. All of the games will help each student with their counting and cardinality, math fluency, and practicing basic math facts. All of the games and manipulatives chosen provide the students with opportunities to play with small groups and learn from one another.
Having this project funded would allow all of my students the opportunity work cooperatively while playing and learning. Zingo, Double Dice, Spin and Count to 20, and the Ten Frame Answer Boards will give all of my students the ability to practice and sharpen their mathematic skills necessary in first grade.
