Help me give my students new baby dolls, Kid Tough Trucks, Animals Up Close Puzzle Set and more materials to make play time more fun in our K4 classroom.
I teach four-year-olds at a small elementary school in Milwaukee. My students are at different levels socially, cognitively and emotionally; some have been diagnosed with special needs.
Approximately 80% of my students live at or below the poverty level.
Most of them have experienced some type of trauma in their short lives. Some of my students have been diagnosed with special needs.
Despite these challenges, my students greet me every morning with great enthusiasm about the day ahead. They love school and learning. Once inside the classroom, they are excited to start their day on the rug with large group activities like stories, games and the morning message. We discuss the plans for the day and special news.
I am grateful for the opportunity to provide my students with their first experience with formal education. I look forward to guiding my little learners through the adventures of K4!
My Project
"Play is the highest form of research," Albert Einstein.
If my Learning Through Play in K4 project is fully funded, my young learners will have the opportunity to conduct developmentally appropriate research more successfully.
My students need new interactive materials to use during free choice time. Hands-on activities provide engaging learning experiences for young learners. My kiddos love working with their hands to complete a puzzle or push trucks around.
They have vast imaginations, which are fired up through creative play in the block area and house keeping areas. New baby dolls, doll accessories, small animals, dinosaurs and people, trucks and other vehicles will help make this possible.
Because of budget constraints, our school is not able to provide classrooms with new materials as readily as they are needed. With your help, I could provide my students with the materials they need to explore and learn in K4.
