Sensory play is vital to early childhood development. It supports language development, cognitive growth, and fine motor skills. As children grow, their senses provide them with familiar ways to learn trough smelling, hearing, tasting, seeing and touching. Sensory play enhances learning through hands-on activities that stimulate children's senses. Sensory play provides successful experiences for all children; no academic skills are necessary to squish kinetic sand through one's fingers. Running fingers through water beads can be therapeutic. Manipulating squishy materials helps to calm anxious and frustrated children. Kinetic sand, Mad Mattr Sensory Dough and the Feel and Find Sensory Tubs will stimulate my students' senses and will promote social interaction. While using these materials, my students will squeeze, create and explore. These materials will naturally provide my students with a platform on which to explore their world and communicate with their classmates.
