This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I work with 19 wonderful, eager and culturally diverse children, most of whom are from low-income families. Every day they come into my classroom ready for new adventures and unique experiences.
With various strengths, weaknesses, and English language development I have come to learn how resilient these little scientists, artists, entertainers, and educators are.
Each child brings something special to my classroom. From the 3-year-old who wants a hug and a story read to them, to the 5-year-old questioning why water doesn't fall off of the Earth, I find myself on my toes never knowing what the new day with bring. With that in mind, I've learned my ultimate goal is to make our classroom a safe haven as well as an exciting learning environment, where their curiosity knows no boundaries.
My Project
What a school year it is already turning out to be. My school district has decided to start the school year remotely, like many other schools. Although our schools are doing their best supplying iPads and various hands-on materials, one thing lacking for this teacher are books.
I would love to read updated books to my students.
I have selected various books to read to my children this year. The children will enjoy listening to stories in their home language, which is why I have bilingual books.
A large amount on books touch on our feelings and emotions, which is necessary at this time. The children need help understanding their emotions and how to help regulate themselves with mindful practices geared for young children.
