My Students

I teach fifth graders who are mostly from low income households. They don't have much but they give their all on a regular basis. Despite the adversity that they face outside of school, they are eager and ready to discover new things everyday.

One of my goals as a fifth grade teacher is to prepare my students for middle school.

Technology plays a major role in preparing them for future years in school. However, students also need to be exposed to literature throughout their schooling.

My Project

This class set of novels will enhance the students' learning. Our teachers use the Louisiana approved Guide Books as the ELA Curriculum and much of our language skills are taught through literature. Lack of funding has made it extremely difficult to acquire the novel sets needed to implement the curriculum to the fullest. With the few sets that we do have on campus, our students have enjoyed reading and learning new things in ways that they are unaccustomed to. This broadens learning while preparing them for future grades as they will move to middle school next school year. They will continue to be required to do novel studies from here on out in their education.
