I teach math to our 5th graders. They come to school eager to learn new things despite hardships they might face daily at home. The majority of my students are raised in low income households; however, they put forth great effort in class. We are required to take state tests on computers this year. Earlier in the year we had programs added to computers to enable students access to practice materials in an effort to prepare them for testing. Of my four computers, one crashed and had to be sent in for repair. Another is so outdated that it runs extremely slow and causes student frustration more than anything. I thought my computer would have been repaired and up and running by now but I was mistaken. I'd like to give my students every opportunity to prepare for the test so they can feel comfortable and confident while taking it. Two chrome books would greatly aid my students in this preparation.
