Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Play has been proven through research to be crucial for children's academic, physical, social, and emotional development. Play based learning helps children negotiate the world around them and develop essential skills like sharing, conflict resolution, teamwork, and build on decision making skills. The materials that I am requesting will help our students develop these skills through carefully planned creative, engineering, and math learning lesson activities.
Please help us bring PLAY back to our students to foster critical thinking, conflict resolution, and perseverance through LEGO building.
Our students come from varying backgrounds and experiences, and due to this play based learning is essential for them to build the connections necessary for the development of cognitive and academic skills. Play based learning allows us to help foster the academic and social growth of our students in an engaging and developmentally appropriate way.
All of the materials requested will be used to develop and engage our students in group based activities through LEGO building. The LEGO sets will develop their teamwork, sharing, and critical thinking skills as they plan their creations. LEGO building will also further develop their communication, sharing, and cooperative playing skills. LEGO building also makes students think about cause-effect relationships and makes them use math with a tangible object. These activities will foster healthy brain development and positive social emotional development, so that academic learning can happen!
