I teach 13-15-year-olds with students with a variety of intellectual and physical disabilities. My classroom focuses on both academics and functional life skills. We focus on academic skills that are on their level, which is not their "grade level." They are each independent and unique and require specialized instruction to help build their needs. We are focusing on promoting life skills that will help them build independence.
This program is new to the junior high school and lacks the resources needed for students to be successful in life and in school.
My Project
My students are unique learners and require a lot of repetition master skills. Due to this repetition, many resources that cover the same skill are needed.
These resources will help students master skills and provide variety in practice the same skill in multiple ways.
The resources needed included many games which make reviewing more fun and also provide opportunities to practice important life skills, like taking turns and working on a team. Students will also learn how to be respectful when they lose or don't get what they want through these games.
