Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I teach in a self-contained fourth through fifth grade Autism classroom. My fourth through fifth grade learners are curious, energetic learners who thrive when they can interact with what they are learning. I want to create sensory bins that turn everyday reading, language arts, math and science practice into engaging, hands-on learning experiences.

With these materials, I will create reusable sensory bins that students can use during literacy centers, small groups, and independent practice.

Students might dig through a bin to find vocabulary words, match prefixes and suffixes, identify parts of speech, practice spelling patterns, answer reading comprehension questions, or complete task cards connected to our current learning. They may dig for numbers, operation signs, objects for counting and more.

Sensory bins give students an opportunity to move, explore, and learn at the same time. They are especially helpful for students who benefit from tactile learning and provide a fun change of pace from traditional pencil-and-paper activities. They allow for me not to only meet their academic goals, but meet their sensory and regulation needs as well. My goal is to create learning experiences that feel exciting while still providing meaningful practice with important fourth-grade skills.

These materials will allow me to create a variety of sensory bins that can be changed throughout the year and used with many different lessons. Your support will help bring more hands-on learning, creativity, and excitement into our classroom!
