Each September, I am greeted with the faces of 20 kindergarten students. All of my students come from different backgrounds, family situations, and economic statuses. But, throughout my years of teaching, I have found one thing in common: my students love having fun and they enjoy learning.
My students learn best when they are able to practice and use newly learned skills in ways that are relevant and meaningful.
Play is one way in which all of my students enjoy interacting with one another. Through their play, I have also noticed a theme. Much of what we learn throughout the day is practiced while the children are playing.
My Project
Play is an integral part of childhood. I would like to give my kindergarten students more opportunities to learn through creative play. The funds received through this project will allow my classroom to receive dollhouse toys, cars, train tracks, legos, magnet blocks, and special comfy floor seating.
Play allows students to practice math, reading, writing, and vocabulary through ways that are relevant and meaningful to them.
In addition to academic areas, students also learn important social skills. They learn how to share, take turns, compromise, and work together. All of these skills will be used throughout a person's life. The more opportunities we give children now, the more successful they will be in each of these areas in the future.
