Learning through Art and Music

My students need a CD player, CDs and musical instruments for music center. They also need collage materials for the art center.

My Students

I have eighteen amazing pre-k students. They live in an urban area and face many struggles and challenges. School is a very important place for them. It is a safe place where they come to grow, learn and explore. I truly love teaching them and helping them to build their foundation for future learning. They absorb new information like sponges and have an excitement for life. They always keep me laughing with their funny stories and sayings. I look forward to watching them grow and learn this school year.

My Project

Children are naturally curious and love to explore the world around them. Art and music are wonderful ways to cultivate children's imaginations. It will help them to become more flexible and inventive thinkers. It will also help to develop their physical, emotional, and mental capabilities. I want to create a music center using the storage shelf and bins. I want to fill the bins with a variety of instruments. I think it would be great to have instruments that are familiar to them, as well as instruments from around the world and homemade instruments. The items requested for the art center such as paper and collage materials will be used to replenish the materials that have been used throughout the year. This will make it possible for the students to have an inviting and engaging art and music center. When children are engaged in creative arts, it helps them to build a strong foundation for future learning.

Art and music are great ways to help children to make connections in their brain, to learn and to have fun.

While students are participating in art activities they are developing fine motor skills by grasping pencils, crayons, chalk and paint brushes. They are also learning and practicing critical thinking skills. They learn math skills like size, shape, counting, and making comparisons. They also learn language skills as they describe and share their artwork with others. In addition to art, music is a valuable tool to aide in student learning. When children are exposed to music from early childhood and on, it helps with speaking skills, development of vocabulary, and also strengthens social and emotional skills.
