Learning the Old Fashioned Way!

Help me give my students the opportunity to learn the old fashioned way. My World Studies students will step away from technology and have the opportunity to learn about countries/cities by playing board games.

My Students

Our school is on the edge of an urban area in Iowa. The students are as diverse as you can get, from farm kids, doctor's children, ELL students, and even homeless students. However they have a few things in common as they walk through my door, they want a safe learning environment, they want to be liked, and they want to be successful.

My Project

This project is unique and engaging way for student to learn about geography and landmarks in a variety of countries/continents while stepping away from technology. Bonus -it does involve strategy which develops those critical thinking skills.

Playing board games also promote communication skills, following instructions, and promotes healthy competition.

Some students don't like to lose, but in the classroom they will better be able to deal with this, and discuss what went wrong. The games are quick, can be done in one class period. The variety of games chosen students will have the opportunity to choose the area that interests them the most.
