My Students

I teach classes of students with disabilities in the 4th and 5th grades. Many are diagnosed with a specific learning disability or autism. My students come from all socioeconomic backgrounds but have one thing in common...a thirst for knowledge.

Our students live in a semi-rural area with limited opportunities.

Our students attend a Title I elementary school in our district with almost 500 students; 53% of our students receive free or reduced-cost lunch.

My Project

My students are emerging readers and just learning to read for enjoyment.

Help me give them book sets to read as a group and discover the joy and love of reading.

A majority of my students have a specific learning disability in reading. Now that they are in 4th and 5th grade, they are now reading better and better. Due to remote learning and their disability, they often resist reading chapter books and reading for fun. The book sets chosen will interest my students and allow them to read chapter books in small groups.
