I work with students that are developmentally delayed and are in a Special Needs classroom. Our school is a Title one school and our area is mostly low-income families. My students come to me with very little knowledge of the Alphabet. Before they leave my classroom they need to know the Alphabet so they will be ready to read. My students require a lot of repetition and changing materials to keep their interest. I am writing this proposal in hopes to get some materials to help me in teaching them the Alphabet. Kaplan has a big book of Alpha Tales and Audio CD that includes 26 stories that teach each letter of the alphabet while building phonemic awareness and also Alpha Tales which is a set of 26 read-alouds that will also build phonemic awareness and reinforce the Alphabet this also includes take-home books for practice along with irresistible stories, hide and seek pictures that will build visual discrimination skills and rhyming letter poems. These materials would make letter recognition and phonemic awareness so much fun for my students. I would use them every day and they would help many, many students learn their beginning reading skills. These materials would truly help my students with beginning reading skills.
